What is Surgical Mesh ?

Surgical mesh is a medical device that is used to provide tension free hernia repair. The use of mesh has greatly improved the recurrence rate of hernia by providing additional support to weakened or damaged tissue. Recurrence and mesh related complications can be avoided by selecting the appropriate type of mesh and the best surgical technique for each individual patient.

Our Services and Procedures

Inguinal hernia is a weakness in the muscles of the groin which allows the protrusion of the intestine or fatty tissue through a natural opening  or through the weakened tissues. Inguinal hernia is the most commonly occurring type of all hernias.

The umbilical cord arises from the placenta in the mother’s uterus and enters into the fetus through a small opening in the abdominal muscles.  The hole usually closes soon after birth.  An umbilical hernia occurs when the abdominal muscles don’t join completely.  This weakness in the abdominal wall may cause an umbilical hernia at birth or later in life.

Ventral hernia is the protrusion of internal organs or fatty tissue through a weakness or tear in the abdominal muscles, usually occurring at the site of a previous surgical scar. There are multiple factors that may contribute to the failure of surgical wound and the development of incisional hernia.  The most important factors are poor surgical technique, wound infection, obesity, chronic steroid use, smoking, poor nutrition, chronic cough, lifting heavy weight, constipation, straining during urination and bowel movements.  These factors are commonly responsible for the recurrence of ventral hernia after surgical repair.

If the hernia is not repaired early it may continue to increase in size , some hernias become very large and require a major surgery to reconstruct the abdominal wall.

Healthgrades Reviews

"After suffering front office incompetence with another surgeon in Anaheim I had the please of saying you're fired, then went searching for another...enter Dr. Ghobrial, a fine gentleman and a great laparoscopic surgeon. And his front office crew was wonderful to boot. Though my hernia had become somewhat large the procedure went very smoothly. Three little incisions that healed nicely. Post Op abdominal pain pleasantly low level and eased quickly. Didn't even need pain medication. "
